Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said there has been considerable growth in public access to affordable clean and green energy, following the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives of the central government.

“This shall further enhance energy efficiency and pave way for a sustainable and self-reliant energy sector in India. PM’s Ujjwala Yojana, CNG network expansion, setting up Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plants with CBG dispensing stations, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, biofuel market development are some of few such initiatives,” said Sawant.

He was speaking after digitally inaugurating ‘Saksham 2021’, a month-long fuel conservation campaign of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The chief minister launched the event in the presence of Siddhartha Swarup, State Level Coordinator (SLC) for Oil Industry in Goa and officers from the oil industry with the theme "Green and Clean Energy".

The initiative aims to spread awareness about conservation of energy for efficient use and sustainable future, thereby adding values to various efforts in the country to save fuel and explore alternate, affordable and cleaner energy sources.

Stating the developments taking place in Goa regarding fuel conservation, the chief minister elaborated on the expansion of CNG, Piped Natural Gas (PNG), EV Charging Stations, solar power installations etc and complimented the oil companies for their efforts in contributing towards a greener ecosystem.

Sawant appealed to the people to participate with full zeal and passion in the month-long awareness drive, so that sustainable methods can be adopted by people in their day-to-day energy consumption, ultimately contributing towards a cleaner, greener and Atmaribhar Bharat.

Earlier, Swarup highlighted the importance of Saksham-2021 and activities which shall take place during the entire month up to February 15.

Outlining the green energy initiatives executed and under pipeline by the oil industry in Goa, Swarup thanked the chief minister for the government’s support and cooperation during the Covid pandemic in ensuring that there was uninterrupted fuel and LPG supplies in the State.
