Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is likely to take up a review meeting with officials over pending work of the new bus stand in Mapusa on Friday.
“Parrikar is expected to chair a meeting with key senior officials of the transport department at the residence to discuss works on the new Mapusa bus stand,” a functionary at the Chief Minister’s office informed.
The CM has been meeting key government officials and reviewing development works in the State soon after his public appearance to oversee work on the new bridge over River Mandovi recently.
Sources informed that although most of the approvals for the new Mapusa bus stand have been obtained, the transport department was yet to pay license fee of around Rs 2.8 crore to the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).
Also, the government was yet to finalise on how to go about in financing the project, as the entire work would entail a cost of Rs 200 crore, the source said.
Architect, Rahul Deshpande, has drawn the plans for state-of-the-art bus stand in Mapusa.
It may be recalled on Thursday, MMC Chairperson Ryan Braganza had expressed disappointment over slow pace of work on several projects in Mapusa. He had also emphasized on need to start work on the new bus stand which could resolve a lot of problems facing the city.
“A new bus stand is the need of the hour and it has to come up in quick time to solve a lot of allied problems. If a new bus stand comes up, the current bus stand can be converted into a multi-level parking,” Braganza had said.
He also suggested that the project could be taken up either on PPP or BOOT model so that work could be completed at the earliest.
The chairperson had informed that several works like building a commercial building in place of municipal garage, construction of meat complex (Rs 80 lakh) and municipality’s administration block (Rs 2.90 crore) were in pipeline in Mapusa.
He also mentioned that government had given Rs 20 crore for renovation of the municipal market, the plans of which were to be submitted by architect, Ashwinikumar Prabhu, by the end of the month.
