All Goa Government Recognized Unaided Schools Association (AGGRUSA) will have a peaceful march on April 7, wherein stakeholders will join in cars and bikes to rally from Mapusa, Margao and Ponda to Panaji.
The representatives of the association said that the march will be peaceful and their idea is to lend support to a mass gathering in New Delhi of over one lakh education stakeholders from unaided schools on April 7.
The stakeholders from pan India will call upon PM Narendra Modi, and voice their concerns on the education sector.
Outlining the demands of unaided schools from the government, Deepak Khaitan, founder, Sunshine Worldwide School and founder president of AGGRUSA said, “We think that the government should give a voucher worth Rs 2,000-2,500 per student, whether he or she is in a government school, unaided school or any other kind of school. Students can then go to a particular school based on the school’s merit.”
Aparna Palyekar, president, AGGRUSA said, “We will also demand in Delhi that infrastructure of a school shouldn’t be a recognition norm. Rather, the recognition should be based on learning.”
Under the current approach, the regulation of schools is based on inputs like infrastructure, teacher salaries, etc.
AGGRUSA informed that this approach has led to the closure of around 1 lakh schools across the country.
The unaided schools, therefore, are demanding that learning outcome of students should become a key factor in regulation of schools.
Another complaint of unaided schools is that schools have to be non-profit entities in India while they pay for electricity, water and property at commercial rates.
Therefore, they are going to call upon Modi to stress that option must be given to schools to become for-profit entities.
It was further informed that all the 200 plus unaided schools in Goa will remain shut on April 7.
