OLD GOA
Chimbel’s proposed IT Park issue is getting murkier by the passing day as muscle power continues to be used to silence the IT Park opponents.
On Thursday, Sandesh Kunkolkar became the second IT Park opponent to be targeted, as a group of four persons armed with swords attempted to assault him while he was on his evening walk at Kadamba plateau.
It may be recalled that on November 26, another villager Ravindra alias Pravin Chopdekar was assaulted by a gang of six for his remarks against the IT Park.
And just like Chopdekar’s case, a video of Sandesh too had gone viral opposing IT Park on social media.
Speaking to The Goan, a villager, Tukaram Kunkolkar, who is also secretary of Chimbel manch informed that Sandesh Kunkolkar was on his evening walk when he was stopped by four persons with masks.
They asked him why he was still opposing IT Park, when he was already asked to stay away.
“When Sandesh said that the IT Park is the issue of the villagers and it will be solved by the villagers and that he will continue opposing IT Park come what may, the four took out swords and tried to assault him,” said Tukaram.
“Sandesh took evasive action and started running for life, with the four following him. The four apparently gave up the chase when Sandesh reached the village. Later, he was taken to the GMC hospital for a medical check up,” Tukaram added.
On hearing of the incident, Chimbel manch members, activists and supporters got together at the Old Goa police station demanding swift action in the matter. A complaint was registered against unknown persons at the Old Goa police station.
The victim’s father has raised suspicion about the involvement of a local politician, who had called him to his residence and threatened him with dire consequences if his son did not stay away from the IT Park issue.

St Cruz MLA
condemns
incident
OLD GOA: St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes has condemned the latest attack on an IT Park opponent and called for stringent police action against the culprits.
“Such type of anti-social activities cannot be tolerated in a civil society and it is the duty of the police to see to it that such incidents are not repeated in the future,” stated Fernandes, while urging the police to increase vigil in Chimbel.
“We are living in a democratic country and issues are to be resolved in a democratic manner and not with the use of muscle power,” he added.
