CM, Min must step aside for fair judicial probe: AAP

PANAJI

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded a judicial probe into the attack on social activist Rama Kankonkar in the wake of the latter’s statement after being discharged from hospital, in which he pointed an accusing finger at Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte as the suspected masterminds behind the attack.

Addressing the media, AAP State President Amit Palekar said these are not ordinary allegations and have shaken public faith in Goa’s law and order system. “Rama’s statement has raised a big question about the BJP government, which needs to be investigated thoroughly. The CM and the Tourism Minister must immediately step aside until the investigation is completed,” Palekar said, adding that an independent judicial committee and not the police machinery must investigate.

Palekar said the issue is no longer limited to one person but has become a test of Goa’s democracy and governance.

“The masterminds of Gundaraj in Goa must be exposed and held accountable. Justice delayed will only confirm that the BJP government is shielding its own,” Palekar said.

Separately, the AAP faced yet another desertion by an office-bearer on Sunday over the party’s firm decision to stay away from any alliance with other Opposition parties for the 2027 Assembly elections.

Pundalik Dhargalkar resigned from the party and his position as joint secretary, claiming that the party has failed to unite everyone in defeating the BJP’s corrupt and divisive politics.
