PANAJI:

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has pledged to donate his kidney, liver, and corneal organs as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday program. The event was organised by the BJP Goa in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Sawant made a heartfelt appeal to citizens, encouraging them to pledge to donate their organs after reaching the age of 18. “Organ donation can transform lives and give hope to those in need."

Sawant announced that efforts are underway to facilitate organ transplants under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY), a health insurance scheme for the residents of Goa.

"This move aims to make organ transplantation more accessible to a wider population and save more lives in the process,” said Sawant.

As part of this initiative, Goa Medical College (GMC) is set to revive its eye donation bank, which will play a role in providing corneal organs for those with visual impairments. GMC has a history of successfully conducting four organ donation programs in the past.

Furthermore, GMC is poised to initiate liver and heart transplant programs. Kidney transplantation is already being carried out at GMC.
