Stresses on making streets pedestrian friendlyrrthe goan I networkrPanajirrA Comprehensive Architectural and Urban Design Master Plan for Panaji Church Square and CCP Precinct was presented before the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at the Corporation of City of Panaji on Monday. The entire project with a built up area of 9610 square meters is proposed at a cost of Rs 69 crore. rSpeaking to media persons after the presentation, he said, “What I have told them is to expand the concept for a walk zone while keeping the heritage aspect of it intact. They can consider taking Massno de Amorim area also as a part of the full development. Additionally pedestrianisation can be also looked at in the Church Square area.” rParrikar assured to finance this project in two phases. As per the project, the buildings proposed should be more open towards the 18th June Road which is proposed to be a pedestrian street. Additionally, the project also proposes encouragement of movement through the building from across the streets to make the central area more accessible to public from all sides. rAfter the presentation, Parrikar also suggested considering maintenance cost of the proposed new Corporation of City of Panaji building for the next 10 years, while preparing cost estimates. rThe project also proposed accommodating existing tenants into the proposed building, barrier free building and urban design and economically viable design, among others.
CM proposes renovation of Panaji Church Square
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has granted his in-principle approval to finance the project for development of the Panaji Church Square and CCP Precinct. He has however suggested changes like pedestrianisation, while maintaining the heritage of the area.
