He demand that the government bestow CRZ-II status for the Salcete villages in the new scheme of things. Sardesai told the media that around 27 kilometers of coastal Salcete is proposed to be notified as CRZ-I, saying that this would have serious implications for the coastal taluka. “In CRZ-I, people will not be able to do anything in this zone, if the plan is notified,” he said.
He pointed out that the CRZ plan was scheduled to be notified by May 31, adding that he has asked the Chief Minister with a request that the government approach the NGT and seek extension of six months time. “As per the new CRZ plan, farmers and fishermen along the Salcete coast from Utorda to Varca will not be able to build anything for the simple reason that this stretch of the coast is proposed to be notified as sand dunes,” he said.
“The TCP department has put a note citing five cases with Google photos stating the implications, the Google images and the proposals made in the RP. There are glaring discrepancies in the draft plan. What ought to have been 1% has been shown as 100% on the plan,” he added.
