Chief Minister Pramod Sawant witnessed the celebration of Konkani language and music at the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention, marking 40 years of Mandd Sobhann and celebrating the rich cultural legacy of the language.
According to an official statement, Sawant congratulated Mandd Sobhann, its President Louis J. Pinto, Dr Ronald Colaco and the entire organising committee for bringing together the event.
The Chief Minister said 53 teams from Goa were participating in the initiative, which features over 6,789 singers across 300 teams, performing more than 4,500 Konkani songs in a continuous 12-day, 12-hour and 12-minute singing marathon. The event is a Guinness World Records title attempt.
“Goa and Karnataka share a deep cultural bond, with Konkani serving as a common thread connecting communities, traditions and generations. One Language. Many Voices. A Shared Heritage. Jai Konkani,” Sawant said.
On the opening day, four Goan teams - Mando Mogi from Margao, Machi Mogi from Santa Cruz, Mandd Sobhann and KATS (Konkani Amchi Tumchi Soglleanchi) - took centre stage to showcase their musical talent and celebrate the language’s heritage. The 12-day musical marathon brings together Konkani speakers and artistes from across the world.
