CM tells politicians to criticise him, not home dept

Sawant was speaking at the inaugural of the police outpost at Santa Cruz on Sunday in the presence of St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena, DIG Parmaditya, IGP Rakesh Kumar, North Goa SP Shobit Saxena, and others.

“Many politicians have the habit of criticising the home department if anything happens. As a home minister, if you want to criticise me, I can understand because I am used to it,” Sawant said and questioned the purpose of criticising the home department when they are the ones who are working 24x7 to keep Goa safe.

“Politicians should criticise politicians and not the departments. If there are mistakes by the police department, then there are officers like the DGP who could be informed,” he stated and opined that the psychology of the people needs to change.

“A woman kidnaps a baby as she is going through psychological problems of her own of having four girls and not a boy. And even when the kidnapping has just happened, people start criticising the government. But when the case is cracked within 24 hours and the baby handed to the mother, not a single person congratulates the police,” the chief minister pointed out.

“When something good is done, at least they should have the courtesy of saying so,” he added.

Further, Sawant also took a dig at persons who are out to spoil the image of Goa at the national level through their posts on social media.

“Do not spoil the image of Goa when posting anything on social media. When they post anything on the social media, they do not think about the implications it would have on the image of Goa and it is due to their political ambitions they do it. Such politicians should be taught a lesson by the public,” Sawant said.

Sawant also cited the example of the second wave of Covid when the government was at the receiving end of many social media posts.
