CM to hold joint meet with GSL: Vasco MLA

VASCO

Amid controversy over the employment of Goans at the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar has said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will convene a joint meeting with the GSL.

"We have been insisting that many central agencies based in Vasco are not giving employment to locals and we have now demanded that government take a policy decision to reserve jobs for Goans in such central agencies,” said Salkar.

“We had warned the GSL of an agitation but since we are in power, we had to take approvals from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who requested us not to agitate and assured to convene a joint meeting with the GSL management on May 18 or 19 to resolve the issue.”

“Everybody is frustrated because even a peon at the GSL is an outsider and we must take a resolution in the assembly that a minimum of 20 per cent jobs must be reserved for Goans in such central agencies," said Salkar.

Asked to comment on plans by the Kannada Mahasangh to float a panel of Kannadigas in the upcoming Panchayat elections, Salkar said: “Everyone has the right to contest elections and it is up to the people to elect a leader of their choice.”
