In an interesting development, the Cuncolim Municipal Council on Tuesday has resolved not to renew the NOC sought by Shraddha Ispat Private Limited for storage of slag in a private property at the Cuncolim Industrial estate.

The resolution adopted by the Cuncolim Municipal Council at its meeting chaired by Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas on Tuesday assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the hearing that was conducted by Chief Officer John Fernandes on a complaint received from citizens not to grant renewal of NOC to the industry to store the industrial slag.

The issue figured at the Council meeting after the Chief Officer stated that since Shraddha Ispat was granted NOC to store the industrial slag with NOC from the Cuncolim Municipal Council, he referred the matter to the Council meeting for an appropriate decision.

At the Council meeting on Tuesday, the members resolved that the Council should not issue the NOC for the industry for storage of the slag.

It is learnt that the Industry had approached the CMC for renewal for the NOC with documents from the Goa State Pollution Control Board.

Meanwhile, the Cuncolim Municipal also discussed the issue of residential rooms that have been building along the Selaulim irrigation canal passing near the Cuncolim Industrial estate.

The issue was raised by Councilor Udesh Desai when he pointed out that the residents staying in the rooms is creating nuisance with the waste water flowing into the adjoining fields.

As the Councillor demanded to know the status of the hearing on the residential rooms, Chief Officer pointed out that he had issued a notice to the Water Resources department, which had got back saying the WRD is presently conducted demarcation of the acquired property all along the irrigation line.
