MARGAO
The Cuncolim Municipal Council will witness multi-cornered contests in almost all the 14-ward, barring the two wards of 13 and 14 as a total of 66 candidates are left in the fray.
Ward No 2 and 9 have the highest number of candidates, around 10.
Elections for ward No 13 and 14 will witness a straight contest. The battle in ward No 13 has narrowed down to former Councilor Anthony Vaz and Melbon D’Costa.
In Ward no 14, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s brother-in-law, Videsh Desai will lock horns with Prasad Desai in a straight contest.
Shadow Council fields 5 for MMC polls
MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao has fielded five candidates for polls to Margao Municipal Council.
The candidates include Ward no 3 Adv. Seoula Vas, Ward no 12 VlemFernandes, Ward no 14 Adv. Godfrey Norton, Ward no 15 Eng. VerenD'silva and Ward no 20 Poma Rajesh Kerkar.
Margao Council polls: Total of 111 file papers
MARGAO: A total of 111 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the 25 Margao Municipal Council seats.
Outgoing chairperson Pooja Naik, a host of former Chairpersons, a number of sitting and former Councilors, besides new faces were amongst those who filed their papers.
BJP has fielded candidates in all the 25 wards under the Vibrant Margao banner. Similarly, the Model Margao floated by Margao MLA, Digmabar Kamat has fielded 11 candidates for the 11 municipal wards in Margao. Sources said that Fatorda MLA VIjai Sardesai has fielded more than 11 candidates and he is expected to finalize his set of candidates depending on the outcome of the Supreme Court order.
