Coalition partners seemed to have divergent views on the continuance of Babu Kavlekar as the Leader of the Opposition.
While the BJP was quick to demand Babu's sacking as leader of the Opposition, the coalition partner, Goa Forward party had a different take on the demand.
"Who are we to decide or demand on the fate of the Leader of the Opposition," was how TCP Minister and Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai reacted when The Goan asked him whether he subscribes to the BJP demand for the sacking of the Opposition leader.
"The Leader of the Opposition knows what is good and bad for him. The Congress Party also knows what is best for the oldest party. I do not think that other political party and individuals come in the domain on deciding Babu's future," Sardesai said.
The Goa Forward Party Chief's stand sounds contrary to the demand made by the BJP Yuva morcha for the removal of Kavlekar from the post of Opposition leader.
Addressing the media in the city here earlier in the day, BJP Yuva morcha leader Sharmad Raiturcar called on the opposition to remove Kavlekar from the
Opposition leader's post, claiming there exists prima-facie evidence of disproportionate against the Leader of the Opposition.
Addressing a press conference, Raiturkar termed the FIR as "appropriate" and felt the need for more investigation in the case pertaining to disproportionate assets case so that truth can come out.
Raiturkar alleged that the raid by the ACB sleuths had revealed disproportionate assets to the tune of 51.29% and a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the opposition leader and his wife. "So, how can Congress leaders claim that this is a case of political vendetta ?" questioned Raiturkar, who stated that disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 5 crore have prima-facie come out in the open.

Cong: Outhouse elongs to Babu's brother

PANAJI: The outhouse which was used to store matka slips and related documents at Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar's residence belonged to the MLA's brother, stated Congress MLA and CLP spokesperson Alexio Reginaldo even as Crime Branch is probing the angle of the brother being used as front to handle the illicit business.
Reginaldo also alleged that several BJP leaders are also actively involved in matka business. "We will expose and arrest all these BJP leaders running matka operations the moment we come to power," said Reginaldo.

Additionally, BJP has also demanded his resignation as the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).
Addressing a press conference, BJP Leader Dattaprasad Naik stated, "Last few days we have seen that cases have been booked against Congress MLA and Leader of Opposituion ‘Babu' Kavalekar.
Yesterday we also saw that police have found matka slips at his residential premises. This clearly shows that this person is directly involved in all the matka activities. BJP demands sacking of Kavalekar as the Leader of Opposition and if he has some morality he should also resign as an MLA."
