North Goa Collector Levinson Martins on Friday directed issuance of memos to all late-comer staff of the Mapusa Mamlatdar’s office after a surprise visit he conducted along with additional collector Vikas Gaunekar.
Martins reached the Bardez taluka headquarters in Mapusa at 10 am and immediately proceeded to check the muster rolls in the offices of the Deputy Collector as well as the Mamlatdar.
Two staff members were issued memos by Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, sources said, adding that Martins also inquired into a specific case of mutation in which he had received a prima facie genuine complaint. The Collector, who also inspected the office of the Deputy Collector, Gourish Shankwalkar, is said to be intent on routinely conducting such surprise visits in a bid to up the accountability in the revenue offices in the jurisdiction of the North Goa district.
Martins, sources said, has directed all deputy collectors, mamlatdars and additional mamlatdars charged with conducting quasi-judicial proceedings of revenue courts to buck up and work efficiently.
Through such surprise visits, Martins will ensure accountability from the quasi-judicial officers to rid the functioning of the revenue courts from bureaucratic delays including incidence of notices being issued but not served in tenancy and other revenue court proceedings.
The novel accountability exercise will be executed across all sub-divisional jurisdictions in North Goa, the sources said.
