The North Goa Collector has issued orders for the removal of vehicles which have not been used in Valpoi municipality for several months.
The collector has stated that abandoned/unused vehicles should be removed within six months or else, they will be seized. Instructions have been given to the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) to implement this order.
A number of vehicles have been found abandoned by the roadsides and this has affected traffic in the area.
There has been demand for a better traffic system in Valpoi municipality for a number of years, but no action has been taken against vehicles abandoned by the roadsides.
Vehicles have been found abandoned in many places, especially near the Fatima Convent, Nanus Junction, Valpoi Municipal Park, Valpai-Thane Road, near the Valpoi bridge.
Faced with mounting calls for the removal of vehicles, the VMC wrote to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate/deputy collector in this matter and a report was later submitted to the District Magistrate.
Acting on the report, the North Goa Collector Sneha Gitte issued an order for the removal of the abandoned vehicles.
When contacted, VMC Chief Officer Dhirendra Banavalikar said that the Collector’s order will be strictly implemented.
Asked about measures for a better traffic system in Valpoi, Banavalikar said a traffic plan in this regard has not been finalised as yet.
“It is not possible to implement a new traffic system until this traffic plan is finalised and notified. However, action is being taken on a regular basis to resolve the traffic congestion in the municipality,” said the chief officer.
