In a sudden action, the men-in-uniform descended along the congested Margao station road, the hub of anti-social activities, and cleared people squatting along the road side.
The police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Sidhant Shirodkar also conducted a drive against illegal vendors doing business outside the Aquem side of the Margao railway station.
The sudden action came as a big surprise for the local residents as well as local business establishments since anti-social activities have been on the rise in recent times.
The drive started from near the Bata showroom, as the police drawn from the Margao police went about clearing the drunkards and other anti-social elements squatting along the road side. The team later headed towards the Victor hospital, clearing the area of the anti-social elements, before descending outside the Margao railway station.
The drive assumes significance given that the Margao station road has been the hub of anti-social activities in recent times. Local business establishment owners have been demanding action against the anti-social activities, especially after dusk when instances of anti-socials targeting visitors and strangers to the area.
The business establishment owners, however, said the police should maintain the heat on the anti-social elements to keep the anti-socials and their activities at bay.
