Collector reviews monsoon   preparedness in South Goa

South Goa Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, South  Egna Cleetus reviewed the monsoon preparedness in the district ahead of the ensuing monsoons.

The review meeting was attended by Ramesh Gaonkar, Additional Collector-II and Velton Tellis, Deputy Collector, South-I, besides SDMs, Mamlatdars, Chief Officers of Municipalities and BDOs of the concerned talukas.

During the meeting, the concerned BDOs informed that nearly 50 per cent of the desilting work of nullahs and drainage systems has been completed in the respective talukas. Further, the SDMs informed that the Electricity Department and WRD have undertaken the cutting of dangerous trees ahead of the monsoon season as a preventive measure.

The concerned SDMs also informed that flood-prone areas have been identified and signages are being installed at such locations to ensure public safety during the monsoon season.

It was further informed that the construction work of the cross drainage at Hospicio, South Goa, is pending and will be completed on time after complying with the report of the concerned SDM. Detailed discussions were also held regarding the Paroda drainage issue, and emphasis was laid on taking timely preventive measures.

In view of monsoon preparedness, control rooms have been set up at the concerned taluka levels for effective coordination and emergency response.
