The gram sabha of the Colva village panchayat scheduled on Sunday was called off after the coming into force of the model election code of conduct.

The Colva gram sabha was scheduled to discuss the Colva beach master plan at the Sunday meeting. The meeting had generated interest in the village since officials of the Tourism Department were expected to explain the salient features of the master plan and field questions from the gram sabha members.

Social activist and Colva gram sabha member Judith Almeida has demanded that the Colva panchayat reschedule the gram sabha at the earliest after the December 20 Zilla Panchayat polls for the benefit of the villagers.

She pointed out that Colva villagers have been anxiously waiting for the gram sabha to demand answers to a host of unanswered questions by the Tourism Department. “We hope that the postponed gram sabha is held at the earliest after the December 20 ZP polls to give an opportunity to the Colva villagers to give their say to the Colva beach master plan,” she added.

Meanwhile, the gram sabha of the Curtorim village panchayat scheduled on Sunday was also postponed as per the instruction of the Director of Panchayats.
