Colva police have arrested a man for allegedly subjecting a woman to physical and mental harassment and dishonestly obtaining Rs 1.5 lakh from her on the pretext of marriage.
Police have registered an FIR against the accused. In her complaint, the woman alleged that between 2024 and June 15, 2026, at a beach resort in Colva, the accused befriended her and falsely claimed that he was unmarried. She stated that, on the promise of marriage, he induced her into a physical relationship and a live-in relationship.
The woman alleged that she became pregnant as a result of the relationship. During her pregnancy, the accused allegedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment and abused her using foul language. She further claimed that the accused dishonestly obtained Rs 1.5 lakh from her on the pretext of marriage. The woman stated that after the birth of their son, the accused assaulted her, neglected and abandoned both her and the child, and refused to take responsibility for them.
