MARGAO: In a major drug seizure, the Colva police arrested a native of Jaunpur-Uttar Pradesh Sonu Kumar Chauhan after he was caught red handed while being in possession of ganja worth Rs 2.4 lakh
The police have also arrested a native of Rajasthan Rakesh Meghwal after accused Sonu named him as the supplier of the narcotic drug.
Briefing the media, Superintendent of police, ANC Tikam Singh Verma, who also holds charge as SP, South, informed that 24-year old accused Sonu Kumar Chauhan, presently residing at Navelim, was caught red handed for possessing flowery like substance, suspected to be ganja weighing 2.401 kilograms worth Rs 2.40 lakh.
During the course of investigation, SP Verma said during thorough interrogation by the Colva police, the accused disclosed the name of the supplier as Rakesh Meghwal who has supplied the Narcotic drugs to the accused person in Goa. “With the help of call monitoring surveillances, the police managed to trace the location of Rakesh Meghwal in Udaipur-Rajasthan. With the help of technical surveillances and electronic media and with the assistance of Gogunda Police Station Udaipur Rajasthan, the accused person Rakesh Meghwal, age 19 years was apprehended at Udaipur Rajasthan”, he said.
A Colva police team brought the accused Rakesh Meghwal to Goa and after sustained interrogations, allegedly admitted the commission of crime by supplying the narcotic drugs from Rajasthan to Sonu Kumar in Goa.
While accused Rakesh Meghwal has been remanded to four days Police Custody, accused Sonu Kumar Chauhan is remanded to Judicial custody.
Investigation of the case is carried out by PSI Prashant Bhagat of Colva PS under the guidance of PI Colva, Ritesh Tari and under supervision of SDPO Margao Siddhant Shirodkar and overall Supervision of Tikam Singh Verma, Superintendent of Police South Goa.
