The Colva Police conducted a special drive against public drinking, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals found consuming alcohol in public places.
The police action comes following a complaints lodged by citizens of Benaulim constituency over the nuisance caused by outsiders from other areas like Panaji, Margao, etc, by drinking in open public places and spoil the beautiful beaches of south by throwing garbage, breaking bottles and fighting with tourist who come to the beach shacks and also with locals who run business.
While acknowledging that alcohol consumption is a common aspect of Goan culture, the police emphasised that drinking in public places is a violation of the law and disrupts the peace and tranquility of society. They emphasised that individuals are free to drink in their homes, restaurants, bars, or other designated premises, but doing so in public spaces is not permissible and constitutes an offence.
The crackdown on public drinking serves as a deterrent against disruptive activities and aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors in the area.
