Residents of Savorfond-Sancoale staged a protest on Sunday to oppose a mega housing project being constructed in the village and to demand the revocation of the construction licence granted to the project.

Locals present at the construction site alleged that the project will include 13-floor buildings, 650 flats, 70 villas, five swimming pools, and other amenities.

Joining them in support were three panchas, Tulshidas Naik (Ward 3), Morelio Carvalho (Ward 5), and Nidhi Naik (Ward 6).

The locals claimed that the project, which does not have a proper access road, would cause an acute water shortage in the village and pose a threat to the environment around the project.

The locals and panchas accused the panchayat secretary of issuing the construction licence to the project and demanded that the licence be revoked immediately.
