Colva police lodge FIR in Varca sand dune destruction case

After the uproar at Fatrade-Varca over the allegation of destruction of sand dune, the Colva police have finally registered a FIR against unknown persons for undertaking development in violation of the Town and Country Planning Act.

The police action comes in the wake of a complaint lodged by Deputy Town Planner, Margao, Prakash Bandodkar. Colva police informed that following the complaint lodged by the TCP Deputy Planner, the police will now investigate to find out the persons involved in the act.

The police further stated that the question whether the sand dune was destroyed or not will be known only after the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority submits its report on the matter.

In his complaint, the Deputy Town Planner pointed out that prior to November 10, 2025 at Varca some unknown accused persons without displaying sign board indicating the permission and without obtaining valid permission/ documents from the concerned authorities, criminally trespassed into the landed property situated at Varca village and unknown accused persons carried out the work of defacing the landed property by constructing the kutcha road, clearing of wild bushes, by levelling of land and destruction of vegetation/ sand dunes towards seaside and by constructing the compound wall on either side along the stretch of road. 

The accused person had undertaken the development in violation of TCP Act and partly falls in CRZ area, the complaint stated.

A FIR under Section 17-A 17-B, 51 of TCP Act has been registered against the unknown persons.
