Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 plan may take some time to fructify if Colva villagers give their nod for the project at the iconic beach.
A local villager Thomas Rodrigues deployed a grass cutter and labourers to clean up the children’s play area as no authority, including the GTDC intervened to rid the area of bushes and wild vegetation.
Last week, a local villager Roque had voiced his concern over the deteriorating condition of the children’s play area at the Colva beach, showing how the play items are crumbling and strays making the area their second home.
Thomas told the media on Thursday that he was forced to deploy the grass cutter to clean up the area with none of the authorities intervening to remove the eye sore. “As a villager involving in fishing and tourism activities, I could not see the sorry state of the children’s play area. When hundreds, if not thousands of people, visit Colva beach, they also go to the children’s play area with their kids. I do not think the parents and visitors will take good memories of the beach after coming across the pathetic conditions of the play area,” he said.
Thomas has got the children’s play area cleared of the wild bushes, but the bigger question remains unanswered – who will fix the crumbling play items in the children’s play area, including the upkeep and maintenance?
