A jail guard has been suspended after a video was filmed of three accused in the Benaulim rape case being stripped naked and made to do squats by five prisoners in the Colvale jail.
The incident is reported to have taken place on August 6 and the video went viral on social media.
The court had sent four accused, who were arrested in connection with the Benaulim rape case, to Colvale jail and one of them tested Covid positive and was placed in another cell.
The other three accused were allegedly made to strip naked and were made to do squats by five other prisoners as punishment for their crimes.
After the video of the incident went viral, officials visited the Colvale Jail and ascertained that the incident had taken place on August 6 at 7.30 pm, the same day the four accused were taken to the jail.
Officials learnt that the five prisoners were from another section of the Jail, but had managed to gain entry to the cell where the three accused were lodged.
The Jail Superintendent Venacio Furtado later placed the jail guard under suspension.
