Dry grass and plastic waste caught fire along the railway tracks near the Comba ring road, giving some anxious moments as many four-wheelers were found parked along the road.
Huge flames and smoke billowing from the railway tracks could be seen from a distance as the fire spread along the tracks for some time.
What caused anxiety among the people was the fire spread fast and almost came close towards the road, where a number of cars, including rent-a-car vehicles were parked along the roadside.
A group of scribes who rushed to the spot immediately conveyed messages to the rent-a-car owners to remove the vehicles from the spot. The vehicles were removed from the site at the right time before any damage could be done.
The fire brigade later made its presence felt at the spot to bring the fire under control.
Railway personnel, who came to the spot, cautioned the firemen to take care while extinguishing the fire, reminding them of the high-tension overhead wires above the railway tracks.
Eyewitnesses pointed out that the manner in which the fire spread along the tracks indicated that not only dry grass, but plastic and other waste might have been dumped along the tracks.
