Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Monday said that he had faced opposition from so many people during his political journey over the last three decades, but said he still continues to represent Margao with the support and blessings of Madgavkars.
Kamat, however, pointed out that he is open to criticism, even saying that opposition and criticism have helped him to improve after understanding his failures.
He was speaking to the media after laying the foundation stone for the drainage works at the historic Lohia Maidan in the presence of Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar, vice-chairperson Deepali Sawal and others on Monday. He also inspected the Lohia Maidan and later informed the media that the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) will hand over the maidan back to the Margao Municipal Council after completing the beautification works on March 15.
When the media drew his attention to the increasing criticism and opposition he has been facing in the city, Kamat shot back: “Kamat is known amongst the Madgavkars for the last 30 years. So many have come and gone during this period, but Digambar is still there with the support and blessings of the people.”
He added: “So long as the people of Margao are satisfied with my performance, I need not worry about the opposition and criticism.”
“I have learnt from criticism. I have never called up the media if they report something about me or the development. I believe the media take a neutral stand and have never questioned their reporting. The media had helped me in the past to shift the Margao fish market to the PDA market without police action,” he said while acknowledging the role played by the media in supporting the development.
The Margao MLA pointed out that Margao roads will be hotmixed before the onset of months at Rs 5.5 crore.
