Mormugao police on Friday dismantled DJ sound systems installed on trucks preparing to participate in Ganesh idol visarjan, following the decision to prohibit DJ music during the immersion process in the Mormugao subdivision.
The action led to tense moments at the site as some locals objected to the removal of the sound systems. They told the police that they had already paid in advance for the DJ systems and urged authorities to allow them to use the music during the procession.
However, DySP Gurudas Kadam maintained that the police had already held three meetings with the Deputy Collector regarding the arrangements and restrictions for the visarjan processions. He said the decision to prohibit DJ systems had been clearly discussed and communicated ahead of the festival.
DySP Kadam said that despite the restrictions, DJ sound systems were seen during the last 1.5-day visarjan processions. He attributed the failure to completely enforce the restriction on that occasion to the shortage of police personnel deployed for the arrangements.
“This time, police personnel have been deployed in full force to ensure that DJ systems are not used during the visarjan processions,” Kadam said.
He said the police would strictly enforce the directions issued for the immersion process and would not permit the use of DJ sound systems or loud music during the processions.
The DySP further warned that strict action would be initiated against those violating the restrictions. Police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations along the routes and at visarjan points to monitor the processions and ensure that the prescribed norms are followed.
The move comes amid efforts by the administration and police to ensure that Ganesh visarjan processions are conducted peacefully while maintaining restrictions on loud music and DJ systems. Kadam said the police would continue to monitor the situation and take action wherever violations are detected.
