Geno SC and Nasik CA scored comfortable victories but Dempo CC went down fighting to BSNL on the second day of the third Babu Naik memorial all-India cricket tournament.
Nasik CA defeated Deniel CA by 275 runs at Agonda, while Geno SC beat DTDC by 8 wickets at Sanguem. The most interesting contest though, was witnessed at Fatorda where BSNL got the better of Dempo CC by 2 wickets.
In a nail-biting finish, BSNL overcame the challenge of Dempo by 2 wickets. Put into bat, Dempo scored 254/9 in 45 overs. In-form batsman Saurabh Bandekar (46) was the top scorer with Akshay Jhambekar (43), Anant Tambekar (39*), Kashyap Bakhale (34), Darshan Misal (31) and Vaibhav Govekar (24) contributing to the competitive total. Kuldeep Diwan (5-39) was the pick of the bowlers. Noel Rana, Kamlesh Makhwana, Salil Yadav and N. S. Negi took one wicket each.
In reply BSNL surpassed the target in 44.4 overs. Joginder Singh (70) set the platform for BSNL by sharing a 97 runs partnership with Anshul Kapse (63). Kamlesh Makhwana (37*) and P Pradhan (26) saw to it that BSNL reached the target. Subodh Bhatti (3-28), Akshay Jhambekar (2-26), Saurabh Bandekar (1-55), Darshan Misal (1-50) and Robin D'Souza (1-11) bowled well for Dempo. Joginder Singh was named Man-of-the match.
At Sanguem, Geno SC scored an emphatic eight-wicket victory over DTDC. Winning the toss and electing to bat, DTDC failed to bat well and were bundled out for a paltry 105 in 37 overs by a disciplined Geno attack. Yogesh Pujari (19) and Tarun Jadhav (18) were the only notable run-getters for DTDC. Harshad Gadekar (3-21), Dheeraj Yadav (3-29), Mahesh Patil (2-12) and Amit Yadav (2-27) bowled well for Geno. In reply, Geno scored the required runs in 12.5 overs. Amit Yadav (45) and Sangram Attekar (42*) batted well for Geno. Kishor Waghela and Sumit Sharma took one wicket each. Amit Yadav was named Man-of-the match. At Agonda ground, Nasik CA thrashed Deniels. Winning the toss and batting first, Nashik scored 353 all out in 40.3 overs. In reply, Deniels were bowled out for 78 in 24 overs. Shreyas Gaidhani was the Man-of-the match.
