Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate on Tuesday assured the State Legislative Assembly to constitute a committee to carry out a survey across the State in response to concerns over road accessibility issues in villages.
He was replying to a Calling Attention tabled by legislators Cruz Silva, Vijai Sardesai, Carlos Ferreira, and Aleixo Lourenco who claimed thousands of houses in Goa do not have motorable road access and instead use the traditional (kaccha) road access through private property.
They claimed that discrepancies have increased conflict in the villages. "As a result, it is almost impossible for emergency services to access such houses in case of an accident or weather-related disaster,” it said.
The legislators sought from the government steps to initiate a Statewide exercise to identify such landlocked properties and modify the survey maps to reflect existing access to such plots.
The legislators, particularly Lourenco emphasized that only genuine cases be considered by the government as there have been instances wherein some misuse the situation.
“We need to find a solution together since it involves various departments. We will form a committee to survey the places and submit a report to the government for further action,” the minister said.
