Community mobilisation with 'Swachhata Doots' on April 19

The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India has been launching thematic cleanliness drives on various subjects and the next drive will be on “Open Defecation Free Area” by taking major intensive community triggering for open defecation free areas and by identifying spots by involving the municipal officials, councillors and self help groups.

April 19, has been devoted a day to focus on community mobilisation and triggering exercise with the help of “Swachhata Doots” especially near identified OD spots so as to trigger demands for toilets from the community.

The fortnight starting from March 1, 2016 to March 15, 2016 was earmarked for thematic drive on government offices and buildings by the Ministry of Urban Development, which is spearheading the Swachh Bharat Mission in the country. Government offices and buildings in the 14 municipal areas in Goa were assessed through self assessment forms for rating the building under Swachh Bharat Mission, which was conducted through Goa State Urban Development Agency with the help of local municipal councils.

The following buildings which scored full 20 points thus maintaining a clean record from sanitation point of view are Mapusa Municipal Council, Mapusa; Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim; Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim; Town & Country Planning Department, Panaji; Directorate of Women and Child Department, Panaji; Directorate of Art and Culture, Panaji; Goa State Pollution Control Board, Panaji; Central Library, Panaji; ESI, Panaji; Provident Fund, Panaji and Income Tax, Panaji.
