Commuters irked over dilapidated roads in Verna Ind Estate

VASCO
The deteriorating condition of internal roads and the growing number of potholes at the Verna Industrial Estate (VIE) have led to growing anger among commuters, motorists and employees in the estate.
With heavy vehicles moving in and out of the VIE round the clock, the roads have broken up at several places, posing a threat and other hardships to pedestrians and other motorists.
Several pedestrians and motorists have complained The Goan that they have to be wary of the numerous potholes along the internal roads.
"Several times during the day, heavy vehicles speed over potholes, splashing muddy water on pedestrians. The potholes are so many that it is a nightmare for two-wheeler riders to negotiate these obstacles. The roads have witnessed several accidents and no one, including the companies or authorities concerned, are bothered to take any action," complained Sunit Rajesh, an employee at VIE.
Another employee, Rajesh Methar, also voiced anger and question authorities for remaining silent to their hardships, due to the poor roads at the VIE.
"I recently met with an accident while trying to dodge a pothole and a speeding car banged into me. I am fortunate to be still alive," said Methar.
Added another employee, Sajjan Korgaonkar: "These potholes have taken a toll on our vehicles. During peak hours, we see a lot of vehicles moving on all sides of the road to avoid the potholes and this endangers the lives of other motorists and pedestrians.
When contacted, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said she was aware of the hardships faced by motorists, commuters and pedestrians on account of bad roads at the VIE.
"People have been coming to my office to complain about the bad roads. I am aware of their hardships and I will immediately write to authorities to repair the internal roads at Verna IDC," said Saldanha.
