OLD GOA
Complainants Mariano Ferrao and John Mascarenhas, who had complained against house numbers being allotted to ghost structures in Old Goa, have accused the panchayat of dilly-dallying in providing a copy of the reply to the show-cause notice.
“We have come to know that the party concerned has replied to the show-cause noticed issued by the panchayat and we had applied for the copy of the reply. But, it’s been several days since we applied for the copy but we are not provided the same,” Ferrao informed The Goan.
“Today, we were called by the panchayat secretary to collect the copy but he was absent and we were told that he won’t be coming in the office. Then I called him over the phone several times but he did not answer. Then, I left a WhatsApp message to the secretary that we had come to collect the copy but the same has not been made available,” Ferrao added.
He then opined whether there is deliberate attempt by the panchayat to protect the interest of the party concerned.
“The panchayat authorities are saying that these house numbers were issued several years back and that they are not involved. Then, why are they not providing us a copy of the reply?” Ferrao questioned while adding that as complainants they are entitled to a copy of the reply.
When contacted, Sarpanch Medha Parvatkar informed that the reply would be placed before the fortnightly meeting of the panchayat to be held on Friday and a decision would be taken, and it would be conveyed to the complainants.
