The heavy downpour from early Monday morning threw life out of gear in Bardez even as a compound wall of a Mapusa-based school collapsed on a car and seriously injuring the driver who is a staffer of the Mapusa electricity department.
The incident took place at around 1.00 pm when part of the compound wall came down and fell on the car. The intensity of the accident was such that the car was completely mangled with the driver trapped inside the car. The Mapusa fire station personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped women from the mangled car.
The injured driver was identified as Archana Naik who is a staffer of the electricity department
Locals informed that the car was parked on the side of the road near the compound wall.
“As soon as the victim got inside the car, part of the compound wall came crashing down on the parked car with the victim trapped inside,” an eyewitness informed.
The entire debris of the compound wall fell on the car completely destroying it.
The injured driver was rushed to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa and later shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
The Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council, Shubhangi Vaigankar and local councilor Priya Mishal also visited the site. Later, the Mapusa fire personnel along with civic employees removed the debris and cleared the road for traffic.
