A few vehicles were damaged after a portion of the PWD sewage treatment plant compound wall collapsed at Baina on Monday afternoon amid incessant rains.
Speaking to reporters, Sajid Shaikh said the entire wall had weakened at many places.
"This wall was built 30 years ago and was quite tall without strong support. The wall collapsed and damaged a few two-wheelers parked along the wall. The police had come and carried out a panchnama as well.”
“The entire wall has to be demolished and a new compound wall has to be constructed because we don't know when the other part of the retaining wall could also collapse. We are fortunate no one was injured in the incident," said Shaikh.
Another resident, Zubeda Shaikh, said no one was walking on the road along the retaining wall only because of heavy rains at the time.
"We have an Anganwadi here and this road is the only access and we have many parents along with small children moving along this road. It was fortunate that no one was present when the incident occurred. Building a new compound wall is the only solution," said Zubeda Shaikh.
