Normal life was thrown out of gear in the commercial capital and Salcete’s countryside as incessant and heavy rains lashed the taluka on Monday.
Vehicular traffic was disrupted at several places on the main roads due to water logging, once again throwing up the question of desilting of drains and storm water nullahs by the local bodies. Traffic at Comba was also disrupted as the subway witnessed water logging, disrupting vehicular traffic.
A tree came crashing down on a car at Comba on Monday morning, even as the fire services received over half a dozen recuse calls as trees got uprooted at several places, blocking roads. The fire brigade rushed to Calconda on Monday after a huge coconut tree was seen hanging on a tree, threatening to come crashing down on residential houses. The tree was cut down by the fire services on late Monday evening.
Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao Uday Prabhudesai along with his team of officials rushed to Paroda on Monday after water entered the courtyard of three houses. The deputy Collector has later put up a report to the district Collector, South with a proposal to widen the nullah for smooth flow of water.
Fire Officer Gill D’Sa informed that the Margao fire brigade received over half a dozen calls since Monday morning.
The four-lane roads, between Old market circle and KTC bus stand in the city’s north and the Margao-Navelim road down South were water logged till noon, disrupting vehicular traffic.
