MARGAO
Independent MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday sent an SOS to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik highlighting the hardships faced by the farmers due to the non-availability of fertilisers.
In separate letters, the Independent Curtorim MLA further pointed out that Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) which is manufacturing urea and non-urea products in Goa, really needs to pull up its socks on the front of providing excellent customer service to farmers.
“PPL is failing on three parameters as its i) Documentation work takes snail’s time ii) Documentation process is very slow and sluggish and iii) Even after making payment, there is no delivery of fertiliser and hence farmers are facing hardships,” he said.
Reginaldo added: “Farmers who are coming at Curtorim Service Cooperative Ltd are going dejected as the supply of fertilisers is becoming a herculean task due to farmer insensitivity of PPL. Importantly, Curtorim Service coop society is providing ceaseless service to benefit farmers including supplying fertiliser to farmers.”
He said PPL has employed a taxing and tedious process related to the procedure of license transferring and other documents. And, the worst part is farmers who are knocking on the doors of Curtorim Service Cooperative Ltd are returning home empty-handed without fertilisers, he added.
The MLA has urged the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister to look into the matter on priority and also arrange an alternative fertiliser company which would supply quality fertiliser to the farmers of Goa at an economical rate.
