Heavy rains in the State on Monday led to the inundation of the main road near Ambedkar Circle in Curchorem and the lone road proceeding to Gavaliwada in Cacora.
While the heavy rains threw normal life out of gear, police had to divert traffic on one side of the internal road near Ambedkar Circle as the road was under knee-deep of water.
Incidentally, the flooding of the main road near Ambedkar Circle has been an annual problem since the road beautification project was carried out a few years ago under the hinterland eco-tourism development scheme devised by the government.
While undertaking the beautification work, the GIDC had reportedly failed to take appropriate measures to ensure proper flow of monsoon water and this has led to flooding of the main road at Ambedkar Circle whenever it rains continuously.
As the rains continued to pour, Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Jasmine Braganza visited the site and requisitioned the services of JCB machine to release the water through underground drains.
Speaking on the flooding of the main road at Ambedkar Circle, Braganza said the road gets flooded whenever it rains heavily but the water recedes whenever the rain stops.
At Gavaliwada-Kakoda, the lone proceeding to the village remained underwater for a long time, cutting off access to residents of Gavaliwada.
Rainwater, however, receded in the afternoon, much to the relief of the villagers.
The issue of overflowing water drains was witnessed at all major places in Curchorem.
