Several travellers have complained about long waiting times caused by vehicle queues at the check post and alleged rude and disrespectful behaviour by some excise personnel. Commuters claim that senior citizens, families and tourists have faced inconvenience due to delays and the manner in which inspections are allegedly being conducted.
Commuters from Karnataka and Goa have also questioned the presence of a private individual at the check post who is reportedly involved in inspection-related activities.
Allegations have surfaced that a private person is assisting with the operation of the check post and is responsible for opening and closing the gate. Citizens have raised concerns about whether such arrangements follow established government procedures and whether they could create security and administrative issues.
Commuters from both Goa and Karnataka have appealed to the Uttar Kannada Excise authorities, the Karnataka Government and the Excise Department to conduct an immediate inquiry into the functioning of the check post. They have sought measures to ensure that travellers are treated with dignity and that any misuse of authority is addressed.
Legal experts and citizens have pointed out that acts involving wrongful restraint, intimidation, insult, harassment or misconduct by public officials could attract provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), depending on the findings of an official investigation. “The Anmod route is a vital link between Goa and Karnataka. With increased traffic expected after the completion of infrastructure improvements, we demand efficient, transparent and citizen-friendly operations,” said Johnson D’Silva, a regular commuter on the route.
Commuters from both states have urged authorities to ensure that tourists and travellers crossing the state border receive lawful, respectful and hassle-free service.
