The waste water and sewage overflow near the canteen side of the South Goa collectorate has come under the scanner of activists and citizens alike as they questioned why the authorities had not moved with alacrity to plug the overflow.
Sanguem-based activist Jervis Fernandes told the media that he had drawn the attention of the South Goa Collector to the waste water and sewage overflow near the canteen side of the imposing building a fortnight ago. He, however, lamented that the authorities are yet to take action, reminding that the health and other authorities waste no time in sealing the premises and establishments found discharging waste water in the open.
“Around 15 days ago, I had sent a photograph to the District Collector of the nuisance posed by the waste and sewage water overflow. I am shocked and surprised that the ground reality has not changed for the better since then. Are the laws and rules only meant for the common citizens and not for the authorities,” he said.
Jervis has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate to take a look at the situation and direct the officials to clean up the area.
