VASCO
It was a lucky escape for a large crowd as small pieces of concrete fell from the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) market complex on Tuesday morning.
While there was no injury to life and no loss to property, further cracks have developed at the complex and more concrete pieces are likely to come crashing down.
Ward Councillor Shami Salkar rushed to the site to take stock of the situation and appealed to authorities to take urgent action on dilapidated buildings in Vasco.
“This building is about 80 years old and in a very dilapidated condition. Further concrete pieces can fall during peak shopping hours and this can be dangerous, considering the rush ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations," said Salkar.
"Authorities must act and demolish these buildings. The MMC can start with some of their own buildings which are unsafe and have a new building after demolishing the old ones,” said Salkar.
