Confusion prevailed among locals, especially along the State’s border areas in Canacona, over reported claims that the border check posts would be opened for motorists and people without any restrictions from Tuesday.
While Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is reported to have said the state borders would be opened to vehicles and people without any restrictions from Tuesday, Canacona administration initially clarified that the taluka administration had not received anything in writing as yet.
However late Monday evening, Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal said as per details shared by the South Goa Collector, an order would be issued later in the night.
According to reliable sources, the State's border with Karnataka at Polem will finally be thrown open on Tuesday without any restrictions on travellers.
A source said there will be no testing for travellers coming to Goa, whether by road, rail or air.
“However, compulsory testing of only international air/sea passengers will continue. Besides, bars and spas/massage parlours will be open from September 1. However, the ban on casinos and river cruises will continue,” the source added.
It may be recalled that a large number of locals from Karwar have been protesting to demand the reopening of the Polem check post without restrictions, after claiming that Karnataka had already reopened its borders at the Majali check post.
They threatened to block Goa-registered vehicles in Karwar and supplies proceeding from Karwar to Goa on September 5, if the Goa government failed to reopen the Polem check post without any restrictions.
