PANAJI

The Congress party on Thursday accused Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai of “fooling the people of Goa” by removing only ten villages from the newly created Planning and Development Authorities (PDAs) whilst ignoring others.

Addressing a press conference, Congress leader Agnelo Fernandes said that while the real demand was to scrap all PDAs, Vijai handpicked only a few.

“The government should not fool the people by just removing only 10 villages. All the villages which are a part of PDA should be eradicated,” Fernandes said while accusing the minister of employing a policy of ‘divide and rule’ to break the people’s movement against the PDAs.

On Wednesday, Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai announced that ten villages including Santa Cruz, Merces, Curca, Bambolim, Telaulim, Siridao, Cujira, etc would no longer be part of the Greater Panaji PDA.

Villages that continue to be part of the PDA include Parra, Arpora, Nagoa besides Calangute and Candolim.

Fernandes also announced that the party was backing the people’s movement against the PDA areas.
