Panaji: Following political developments in Karnataka, the Congress in Goa also swung into action. Congress marched to Raj Bhavan earlier this morning demanding that Goa Governor Smt Mridula Sinha extend an invitation to the grand old party to form a government, following the example of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala who invited single largest party to stake claim to the government. A delegation of
Congress leaders met Governor Sinha and presented a memorandum. The delegation comprised of Congress’ Goa desk in-charge Dr Chellakumar, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, CLP leader Chandrakant Kavlekar, and 12 Congress MLAs along with other office-bearers of the party.
Addressing the media after meeting the Governor, Girish Chodankar said that both Governors cannot take the wrong decision, and either the Governor of Goa or that of Karnataka has made a mistake. Following the decision of Karnataka Governor, the Governor of Goa can rectify her mistake, Chodankar stated. He further expressed hope that judging from the Governor’s body language, she is likely to give a favourable decision for Congress in the situation.
The Governor has asked for some time to decide on the issue, but the exact time-limit has not been specified. However, Congress is ready to prove its majority within seven days if required, Chodankar has stated.
