City lawyer Aires Rodrigues who has been in the fore-front demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on health grounds, was summoned by the Crime Branch for inquiry into a 2016 complaint questioning his
citizenship status.
Rodrigues who is also locked in a legal battle with the Raj Bhavan over the applicability of the transparency law Right to Information Act to the governor’s official abode, has been asked to present himself at the Crime Branch at Ribandar at 11 am on Friday. The notice was served to Rodrigues on Thursday by Police Inspector Satish V Gawade.
Gawade is the investigating officer in the FIR registered in 2016 on a complaint filed by former Colva panch Calvert Gonsalves alleging that Rodrigues is a Portuguese National and therefore could not practice in Indian courts.
The FIR quotes sections multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, a section of the Foreigners Act 1946, and also of the Indian Passport Act, 1967.
Rodrigues meanwhile has alleged harassment by the State government ever since he publicly demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister.
