Instead of conducting exams for government vacancies, the BJP-led coalition government in Goa should just auction or sell jobs to the highest bidder, State Congress president Girish Chodankar said on Tuesday, alleging a scam in the recruitment for the post Inspector in the state Legal Metrology Department.
The Congress has now demanded scrapping of the recruitment process for the vacancies for which 1,128 eligible candidates had applied for.
Chodankar told a press conference in Panaji, that out of the four candidates who had scored 100 out of 100 in written exams conducted for the post, one candidate roll No. 57, Bhupendra Umesh Dessai, is a personal assistant to the Minister for Legal Metrology Filip Neri Rodrigues!
"Another candidate who has scored 100 marks is with roll no. 17 by name Azen Rio Rodrigues from Dramapur Salcete which happens to be the constituency of the Minister. Another Candidate who has scored 100 Marks is at roll no. 368 by name Aditya Rajendra Parab from Kothambi “ Pale which happens to be the constituency of the Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant. The fourth candidate who has scored full 100 marks is with roll no. 86 by name Colaco Swezel Urminda from Raia, Salcete, Goa," Chodankar claimed.
The state Congress president also said that unemployment is one of the biggest issues confronting the youth of the state and added that talented youngsters in the state were getting frustrated, because jobs which should be due to them are being sold out by the government.
"There are intelligent students who find no place in government conducted exams. This exposes the shamelessness of the government to sell and compromise on employment," Chodankar said.
"Why are you holding these farcical exams? Just auction and sell these jobs. These posts should be scrapped immediately and the minister should be sacked. Or else youth in Goa will have to be brought to the streets in protest," he also said.
The written exams for the post of inspector in the Legal Metrology department were conducted on September 26 this year, while the mark list was published by the Principal of Government Polytechnic Panaji on November 19.
With elections around the corner, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is fighting a race against time to fill 10,000 government job vacancies before the model code of conduct is imposed in the poll-bound State.
