The Margao Municipality-appointed sopo contractor claimed that they do not collect parking fees on the vehicles parked on the wholesale fish market road.
In fact, representatives of the contractor maintained that sopo fees are being collected only on commercial vehicles parked alongside the road.
A representative of the contractor, Anthony Fernades has termed as false the reports that the MMC-appointed sopo contractor has been involved in the collection of pay parking charges from vehicles parked on the wholesale fish market road.
“The sopo contractor has never charged any parking fees on vehicles which are parked on the road, unless they are commercial vehicles. We collect the sopo fees as per the rates fixed by the Margao Municipality. The contractor has never gone beyond the scope of the order issued by the civic body,” Anthony said.
