The Congress camp in Velim was brimming with confidence after the end of polling for the Zilla Panchayat election, with party leaders expressing confidence of retaining the seat.
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party leaders appeared to have gone into an introspection mode over the poll percentage in the constituency.
As total of six candidates were in the fray for the Velim seat, including sitting Congress ZP member Julio Fernandes, AAP Candiate Isaca Fernandes, RGP candidate Dagley Fernandes, besides three Independents Frank Viegas, John Pereira and Cruz pinto.
Congress South Goa district President Savio D’Silva thanked the people of Velim constituency for having come out in large numbers to vote for party candidate Julio Fernandes.
“I can say with confidence that the Congress would retain the Velim seat with comfortable majority. Our candidate will poll votes in all the villages that make up the Velim seat”, Savio told the media.
The Congress had won the Velim ZP seat in the 2020 election after the party rank and file from the constituency prevailed upon the Congress leadership to field a party candidate instead of supporting an independent candidate.
