MCC Knights and MCC Thunder recorded victories in their respective matches of the ongoing MCL 11 T20 cricket tournament, played at the MCC Ground, Margao.
In the morning encounter, MCC Knights edged past MCC Avengers by two wickets in a closely fought match. Batting first, MCC Avengers posted 135/9 in 20 overs, with notable contributions from Amod Borkar (34) and Vedant Naik (38). For Knights, Vipul Kalekar starred with the ball, returning impressive figures of 3/18, while Vikram Gaitonde (2/24) and Vinay Sambari (2/23) provided valuable support.
In reply, MCC Knights held their nerves to chase down the target, scoring 136/8 in 19.2 overs. Ameet Kakode top-scored with 36, while Sairaj Dhond (21) and Vinay Sambari (15) chipped in. For Avengers, Amlon Dsouza and Vipul Kamat picked up two wickets each. Vipul Kalekar was named Man of the Match.
In the afternoon game, MCC Thunder scripted a comfortable four-wicket victory over MCC Warriors. MCC Warriors batted first and posted a competitive 168/8 in 20 overs. Govind Lotlikar (23), Vikas Shetty (31) and Sandeep Dalal (35) led the scoring. MCC Thunder bowlers kept things in control through disciplined spells, led by Dr. Rohan Badve (3/20). Om Fadte 119, Ved Mahambre 122, Sudhir Shet 125, Paul Fernandes 118 supports him.
Thunder chased the target in just 15.4 overs, finishing at 171/6. Om Fadte (38), Roshan Naik (36), and Dr. Rohan Badve (28) made useful contributions, while Sudhir Shet (23*) and Ved Mahambre (35*) sealed the win. Kapil Angle and Vikas Shetty claimed a wicket each for Warriors. Dr. Rohan Badve bagged the Man of the Match award.
Thunder (0.940), Tigers (0.734), Masters (0.659) and Knights (0.645), each with 10 points, finished in first, second, third and fourth positions respectively to qualify for the playoffs. Despite having the same number of points, the Royals (0.393) had to face disappointment due to a lower net run rate.
